Sun OSUM is an on-campus community (club) that educates students about the importance of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) and the latest Open Source technologies and communities supported by Sun. Sun OSUMs provide students with training in cutting edge technologies in demand by the IT industry, access to resources to advance their careers and the opportunity to make friends through engaging and fun technology-based activities.

It is called a "Meetup" because the nature of the open source world is community and collaboration. Students are encouraged to "Meetup" with existing student groups and share the benefits of Sun's open source technologies and student resources to create an even stronger open source community in the university.
