The department was established in the year 1997 with an annual intake of 60 students. Now it is NBA accredited department. It has well established laboratories with state of art equipments, computing facility with 2Mbps LAN connected machines installed with legal software like MATLAB, ORCAD for providing environment conducive for learning and research. The laboratories of the department consist of wings like Basic Electrical Engineering Lab, Network Device Lab, Electrical& Electronics Measurement Lab, Electro-Mechanics Labs ( DC Machine Lab & AC Machine Lab), Power Electronics Lab, Control & Instrumentation Lab and Control & Simulation Lab. The department has achieved excellent results at the university level and several of its alumni serve in many National and Multinational companies. The department has got 15 laths grant from AICTE under MODROB scheme for set up of Advance Power Electronics Lab under Prof. Saroj Kumar Mishra as project coordinator.
Recently, one Staff Development Programme on “Advances in Electrical Power & Control System (AEPCS-2009)” sponsored by AICTE was organized in the department from 30th November to 12th December 2009. The department has also proposed to AICTE another SDP and to DST for one FDP to organize in the year 2011.
The department has been continuously engaged in undertaking the students’ project with keen interest for rural development like Multipurpose Pedal Power Generator (got 1st prize in the business plan contest held at IIT Kharagpur on 3rd February 2008),Solar LED Lantern (got the prestigious MONDIALOGO engineering award’08 organized by DAIMLER in collaboration with UNESCO). The department is encouraging its students and faculties to participate in National and International Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Staff Development Program on regular basis to upgrade their skills. It is also providing excellent facilities to the students like department library, study tour for industry expose and knowledge beyond the syllabus by inviting resource persons from industry and academic back ground. The department is also involved in research and consultancy to further enhance the knowledge capital in the relevant field.
