The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1997 with an intake of 60 students per year. The department is located in a separate multi-storied building comprising of six laboratories, faculty rooms, department office, stores etc. The department has the state of art and well-equipped laboratories with modern facilities of Mechanics, Chemical Technology, Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer, Mass Transfer Operations, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Process Instrumentation and
Control, Process Modeling, Simulation and CAD. The design and selection of equipments is not only for conducting experiments but also for the project work of the final year students.
Apart from all these, regular industrial consultancy is provided in the areas of energy audit, heat balance calculations and process equipment design. The department is on the path of excellence with the electives in Biotechnology and Petroleum Refining Engineering are being introduced into the curriculum of the institute. The department has conducted an All India Seminar on “Role of Chemical Engineering in the Utilization of Natural Resources” in association with the Institution of Engineers India, Berhampur Local Centre, Berhampur, Orissa.
