TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT & EXTENSION
JITM is fired by the urge to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people in the local community and has embarked on a mission to use appropriate technology for rural development. A demonstration, training and resource centre sponsored by Association for India's Development (AID) along the lines of the Barefoot College model in close collaboration with the Auroville Center for Scientific Research (Aurore) is being set up on campus and will operate in close association with the vocational training activities. Mr Peter Bakos of AID Orissa will direct this program in an honorary position. AID is also starting a resource center adjacent to the JITM campus (www.aidindia.org).

The institute would also be working on the following areas in the years to come (a presentation titled "Thoughts on Potential for Technical Activities (R&D) at JITM" by Dhanada Mishra here:
  • Low cost building components
  • Bio-fuels and alternative energy sources like solar energy
  • Low cost IT enabled learning tools
  • Organic Agriculture
  • Water Conservation
  • Rural livelihood creation through income generation activities (IGP)
